You and your entire family can learn to see the world around you in a whole new light thanks to the educational programs offered by the Urban Ecology Center. The organization was founded to plant a seed of environmental curiosity in the minds of all guests and program participants.
Connecting Cities with Nature
Our urban neighborhoods must interact and coexist with the nature around us, and the Center aims to equip these communities with knowledge and understanding. The center pursues this goal through a number of initiatives like their Neighborhood Environmental Education Project, volunteer activities, summer internships, weekend family programs, and more. You can always check their schedule to see about joining an early morning bird walk, a young scientist club, climbing class, or other activity.
While you learn about the animals, plant life, and natural environment, you can experience the great outdoors on a variety of climbing, canoeing, or biking excursions.
Locations
The organization is open seven days per week across three Milwaukee locations: Menomonee Valley, Riverside Park, and Washington Park.
The original Riverside Park headquarters features 15 acres of woodland and wetland habitat, and it’s also the home to some live animals. The site also features a habitat-themed play area. The center in Washington Park is in a prime location to serve local schools, and now offers after-school programs. It also benefits the community with its Neighborhood Environmental Education Project. The most recent branch in Menomonee Valley opened in 2012, introducing a variety of green building methods to the community.
