What Are Pączki?
Pączki is the plural form of pączek, a Polish jelly-filled doughnut. However, these treats are much more rich and delicious than most of their American counterparts. Paczki are made with enriched yeast dough, meaning that butter, milk, and eggs have been added to the mixture, similar to Brioche. They’re traditionally fried, filled with prune, cherry, raspberry, or rosehip preserves, glazed, and covered in additional sugar. Yum!
So, how do you pronounce these pastry delights? The plural form, pączki is pronounced PAWNCH-key, and pączek, the singular form is pronounced PAWN-check. Now that you know exactly what deliciousness you’ll be biting into, and how to say it, you can make plans to score some pączki this year.
